University of Florida Graduate Earns McCall MacBain Scholarship for Studies in Canada

Sophia De La Cruz is the third graduate from a U.S. institution to earn this scholarship.

University of Florida graduate Sophia De La Cruz (BA’25) has been named a McCall MacBain Scholar, chosen from thousands of international applicants to pursue a funded master’s degree and leadership program at McGill University in Canada. Sophia is the first graduate from Florida and the third from a U.S. institution to earn this scholarship.

Recently established with a historic C$200 million gift (about $146 million USD), the McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies. The scholarships cover tuition and fees, living costs, relocation, and summer funding, as well as participation in mentorship, coaching, and leadership development programs.

“When I learned I was selected for the McCall MacBain Scholarship, I felt immense gratitude for the entire application process and the opportunity to pursue what I love with full financial and personal support. I cannot wait to move to Montreal in the fall, where I will learn French, continue bonding with the other scholars, and challenge myself through a thesis-based research program,” said Sophia.
